Tom Torres has accepted the role of Head Coach of the inaugural Nova FC Women’s Pro/Am team.

“We are excited to have Tom Torres (TT) back with Nova FC as we begin a new chapter in the women’s game” said Nova FC’s Director of Soccer Development Kareem Sheta. Torres has spent the last twenty-five years coaching players in the DC metro market and brings a wealth of experience to the modern progression of players into the professional game. Torres has spent the last four years coaching some of and against the best players in the world in NWSL with the Washington Spirit.  Rose Lavelle, Mallory Pugh and Ashley Hatch are only a few names that he assisted through the process of excelling at the highest levels.  His main role at the Spirit was that as a Technical Assistant Coach, including field, video analysis and player management.  He was also an Associate General Manager, and was responsible for player scouting/talent identification, agent interaction and contract negotiation. Before his Spirit role, Torres spent 10 years with D.C. United.  Predominantly, his focus was to guide academy players to the first team, but over time, his experience evolved into work with the First Team under former Head Coach Ben Olsen and international experience with the French Football Federation and extensive work with Inter Milan.  Before D.C. United Torres was involved with the PDL and W-League (USL) programs within the Northern Virginia FC program.  Through these experiences, he has been able to create a professional model that focuses on developing players for next level play.

“I’m grateful to NVFC for the opportunity to work with senior level players and to help create a program that lives up to the UWS standards as well as creates opportunities for local players to aim for the highest levels of competition, Torres said.  Northern VA is a market rich with talent, and creating a venue for players that have quality but cannot be one of 40-60 players to make it to NWSL rosters is an exciting prospect.  I’m looking forward to not only being involved in the process but also, as a DMV native, helping our local women work towards reaching their goals and dreams.  Our primary growth objective is to create an environment that allows us to move up to UWS 1 right away and sustain a program that is here to stay and support the PRO/AM system.” For information on the UWS, Nova FC and tryouts visit novafc.club
